Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is also known as “the gentle art.” Learning and practicing BJJ allows anyone to take down and disable someone with definitive movements and techniques that work against even the largest attackers. The basis of many Mixed Martial Arts fighters is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, adding to the popularity of the sport. BJJ is practiced by people of all ages, sizes and capabilities.
Because most street fights end up going to the ground, BJJ focuses on taking down your opponent so that you can take control of the situation and stop the assault. Because BJJ allows an “underdog” to take on bigger, stronger opponents, nearly anyone of any age, size, or sex can subdue an attacker and defend themselves successfully.
“Grappling” is the category for BJJ and other types of hand-to-hand combat. Unlike other forms of self-defense, BJJ uses grappling exclusively, and does not involve striking the opponent or the use of any weapons. BJJ focuses on ground grappling after taking down an opponent or attacker.
Breakaway Jiu Jitsu is Newport News’ best place to start learning the art of grappling with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Whether you’re interested in self-defense, for the sport of it, improved fitness, earning a black belt, or just for overall health and wellness, Breakaway Jiu Jitsu can help you become proficient.
BJJ is recognized worldwide as one of the best forms of self-defense that allows everyone, no matter age or size, the opportunity to effectively defend themselves against an attack. Call us today at 757-233-0373 to talk with one of our instructors, or to sign up for one of our free classes.Share
