Breakaway Jiu Jitsu is an up and coming Hampton Roads Jiu Jitsu company in Newport News, VA. Breakaway Jiu Jitsu recently sponsored a very successful charity event called “Rolling for a Cause.” The proceeds of this event were split equally between the Hunter’s Hope Foundation and a Newport News Fire Department family whose son was born with Krabbe Disease.
Hunter’s Hope Foundation was organized for awareness, education, research, and care for families impacted by Leukodystrophies. Krabbe Disease is one such Leukodystrophy, and it affects the central and peripheral nervous systems. Hunter’s Hope Foundation was founded in 1997 by former Buffalo Bills quarterback, Jim Kelly, and his wife after their son, Hunter, was diagnosed with Krabbe Leukodystrophy, a genetic and fatal nervous system disease.
Krabbe Disease affects the central and peripheral nervous systems, and patients diagnosed with Krabbe Disease experience a loss in the ability to walk, speak, swallow, and many other important bodily functions. There is no cure for this terrible disease, but it is treatable.
Newborn screening is the best chance for early detection of Krabbe Disease and gives the best chance for lifesaving treatment to stop the progression of the disease.
Breakaway Jiu Jitsu is growing very quickly and is already giving back to the community that has made them successful. People throughout the Hampton Roads area and abroad are signing up for Jiu Jitsu classes. Jiu Jitsu is a fantastic sport for anyone wanting to learn a martial arts discipline.
